How To Create Seamless Patterns In Photoshop (With Graphics Or Images!)

Guided Notes

3 key concepts

  • 1

To create a repeating graphic pattern in Photoshop, it is easiest to start with a canvas size of 500 by 500 pixels with a resolution of 300 pixels per inch.

  • 2

After duplicating and merging all layers, the offset filter is used to realign the graphics and create a repeating pattern by setting the horizontal and vertical values to half of the canvas dimensions.

  • 3

When creating a pattern from an image, use the content aware fill tool to help align the edges after offsetting, and then use the clone stamp tool to touch up any repeating textures or harsh lines.

โ€œIn Photoshop, create a new document that is 500 x 500 pixels with a resolution of 300 pixels per inch. Create a graphic design that does not extend past the edges of the canvas. Duplicate and merge all of your layers. Then, use the offset filter to offset the image horizontally and vertically. What values should you input for the horizontal and vertical offset? Why?โ€
